Asamesischer Zirkus at 15
We were charmed and thrilled by a full two hour show with bells and whistles put on by the talented young acrobats of the Asamesicher Zirkus (http://www.asamesischer-zirkus.de) performing on the Katzenbuckel, a little park down the road from our house. This circus is a local school project which started as a Friday afternoon juggling club in November 1994 and is still run by its founder, Jürgen Adams (pictured), teacher of sports and chemistry at Asam Gymnasium (http://www.asg.musin.de). (A "Gymnasium" is a German secondary school type for gifted students aiming at going to college.) Asamesicher Zirkus partners with a second Munich school circus, the Majostics (http://www.majostics.de), run by Hr. Adams' wife Suzann Adams, teaching German, sports, and circus arts at Max-Josef-Stift for girls. While the teens at Asamesischer Zirkus excel at juggling and unicycle acts (including the world champion in riding a unicycle backwards - slowly), the Majostics girls specialize in acrobatic gymnastics. We loved watching the partner and group acts. My personal favorites were two girls from grade 6 calling themselves Duo Elisananda, who were so good you'd think that they've grown up at the circus. Well, now they are - and that's obviously a good thing! Circus Roberto provided tents, a Portuguese restaurant in Haidhausen provided tapas.
Asamesischer Zirkus will be performing again tonight. Sold out.
